The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for his dedicated efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, particularly for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea.

The prize is to recognize all the stakeholders working for peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia and the East and Northeast African regions.

Ethiopia and Eritrea were longtime foes who fought a border war from 1998 to 2000, restored relations in July 2018 after years of hostility.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has been awarded Nobel Peace Prize 2019. For his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, particularly for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with the neighboring country Eritrea which had been the issue between Ethiopia and Eritrea for a long.
